Fear Grips Ex-Gov Akpabio As Court Clears EFCC To Investigate Akwa Ibom Finances

There is fire on the mountain for Mr. Uncommon Transformation, ex-governor Godswill Akpabio.
Justice Ntong Ntong of the Akwa Ibom State High Court, sitting in Ikot Ekpene, on Friday vacated an order of interim injunction restraining the EFCC from investigating the accounts of Akwa Ibom State Government as well as some of the state’s past officials.
The court had on July 13 ruled in favour of an ex-parte motion filed before it by the Akwa Ibom State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uwemedimo Nwoko, seeking an order of interim injunction restraining the Federal Government or any of its agencies, including the EFCC, the ICPC and the Inspector General of Police from arresting, detaining or investigating any official of the state government, past or present, without any report of indictment by the state House of Assembly.

An EFCC source said one of those being investigated is Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of the state who is the current minority leader of the Nigerian Senate.

Akpabio is said to be have visited some APC leaders secretly to beg them to talk to EFCC to forget his side. But it appears those moves did not yield the expected results.

Metro gathered from official sources that Akwa Ibom got the highest allocation from the federation account all through Akpabio's tenure, running into Trillions of Naira. Not much to show.

Now the restraining order has been vacated, sources say their is palpable fear in Akpabio's camp.
